Recently I wanted to sell some furniture items on the Facebook Marketplace App. I decided to take a few photos of the items. Without contemplating my move, I quickly uploaded the photo’s because I simply wanted the them to get sold immediately.
I had a brand-new adjustable summer seat, a queen-sized bed frame plus its mattress, a dresser, and a few small items.
The summer seat had attracted over 150 views from the first day and, within a couple of hours, It had sold off. Regrettably, the other items that were listed had not attracted much interest even after five days.
It was surprising that the other items had not picked up similar interest as that of the Summer seat. It then occurred to me that I needed to apply my marketing knowledge and skills to attract buyers quickly.

To sell these items, I had to work on the pricing, appearance, description, the aspect of bargaining, and positioning.
The great appearance of your item is a tested skill.
When shopping online for any item, what first attracts you to your preferred item would most probably be its appearance. That’s right! What appears attractive gains a second look.
You can however play around with your image and use photo enhancements to improve the picture quality. The appearance of your items is vital to a client’s decision-making. Position your product without any clutter surrounding it as you take a picture because you always want to ensure the viewer’s eye focuses on the item.
No one wants to buy an item that looks grimy or unkempt. You must dress your product to give your buyer an idea of how they can use it in their home. In my case, I decided to dress up my bed and decorate my cloth dresser.
Describing your items can play to your advantage.
Buyers want to know what the product may offer them. Writing a clear brief, with precise descriptions will help your intended buyer to understand more about the item.Â
If you are selling furniture, remember that your buyer wants to know the length, height, and depth of the item. People usually want to know how long you have had the item, before they commit to buying it. So you can talk about the material that the item is made from and for how long you have cared for it.
The selling pricing can make a big difference.
The price is usually a great deal breaker. In most circumstances, the price of an item will only be accepted if the item you are selling looks worthy of the quoted price.
When I stated that I am selling a brand-new garden chair that was adjustable for only $35, the buyers knew straight away that they had a clean deal for this chair.
The cost of the same chair at Costco or Walmart goes for about $130 or perhaps if it was on a deal, it would sell for about $70. If you want to get the best out of your price, ensure that you do emphasize on the appearance and the description.

Everyone is searching for a good deal
Allow for bargaining. You can always raise your price above the desired amount to allow for negotiation. Everyone wants to know that they got a great deal when purchasing an item on Facebook or any other platform.
Lowering your price substantially will therefore give your buyer the feeling of satisfaction, moreover, they would probably close the sale immediately.
Use your skills to tactfully position the products.
Finally, you need to position your item tactfully. Facebook allows users to strategically place their items on various groups with similar interests.
Adding your products to five different groups with similar interests, gives your items more opportunities to be viewed by more prospects. Additionally, this will give you an advantage over other items especially if you are not sponsoring your item by paying for it on the Facebook advertising tool.
Selling your items on Facebook is also instrumental in creating income. If you want to get more more ideas on making side income, take a look at my article; Five Ideas for side Income. Hopefully, these tips can get your items sold faster next time.
